Performers are Metropolitan Opera baritone Thomas Hampson; Jay Ungar, violin and mandolin; Molly Mason, guitar and string bass; David Alpher, piano; Garrison Keillor, vocal harmony; and others. David Alpher is co-arranger as well as pianist in this unusual recording, which recaptures an old-fashioned spirit of homespun improvisation. Jay and Molly, American traditional music performers, provided the celebrated score for the PBS documentary The Civil War.
